CHEERS TO YOU THIS GIVING TUESDAY

GT2023 Results Banner

This Giving Tuesday we surpassed our goal and raised over $20,000! These funds will support our STEM education programs in the coming year and help us continue to provide and grow our innovative and hands-on learning opportunities for teachers and students.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year and demonstrated your passion for marine science research and education. We cannot wait to get started and see what we can do in 2024 together!

If you did not get a chance to show your support, you can still participate in this year's campaign and donate online. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference!

CELEBRATING ANOTHER IMPACTFUL YEAR OF COASTAL OCEAN EXPLORERS: SHARKS

COE Numbers

We and our partner scientists from Florida International University had a blast this fall continuing to engage local students and teachers in our Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks hands-on education program! We rounded out the year with school visits and R/V ANGARI expeditions with Santaluces Community High School, Jupiter Community High School, Palm Springs Community Middle School and The Conservatory School @ North Palm Beach. We want to thank the Great Charity Challenge, Society for Science's STEM Action Grant program and ANGARI Foundation donors for making these unforgettable opportunities possible, and the Flotilla Club for their in-kind support of our program!

We are lucky to get to work side-by-side with so many bright and enthusiastic students each semester to study local marine life (particularly sharks!) off of Palm Beach County and cannot wait to get underway with new Coastal Ocean Explorers audiences during the spring 2024 semester! Learn more about the program and our recent expeditions here.

RESEARCH VESSEL READY FOR 2024 EXPEDITIONS

RV ANGARI Captain prepares life rafts for recertification

With over 70 days spent at sea this year, we are getting ready for another busy year of research expeditions!

Every fall involves an array of safety inspections, recertifications and routine maintenance onboard R/V ANGARI. Our fire systems and extinguishers, life rafts and additional life saving equipment onboard have passed their annual inspections and been recertified. We've completed scheduled mechanical maintenance onboard our research vessel and tender, and we even updated all guest bedding.

We can't wait to welcome you aboard in the new year! View all vessel details and specifications on our website.

TENTH LAGOON DRIFT EXPERIMENT UNDERWAY

Neither wind nor rain was able to stop the release of drift cards for our 10th Lagoon Drift citizen science experiment studying the motion and accumulation of marine debris in our waterways. Thank you to our partners at Friends of Manatee Lagoon, Friends of Palm Beach, Manatee Lagoon and Palm Beach Day Academy for aiding in the release, and to the Great Charity Challenge for supporting this experiment!

Reports have come in from around Palm Beach County, but cards are still out there so please continue to be on the lookout! To learn more, visit the study webpage.

WRAPPING A FUN FALL OF OCEAN EXPERT EXCHANGES

Ocean Expert Exchange Fall 2023 webinar series summary graphic.

We and our partners at the University of Florida Thompson Earth Systems Institute had an engaging fall semester of live webinars exploring fascinating topics, like Florida's dolphin populations, sharks in the food web and the Great Atlantic Sargassum belt. Thank you to those who joined us and especially to our speakers - Dr. Barbara Brunnick, Sara Casareto and Dr. Brian Lapointe - for sharing their work.

We have exciting plans underway for our spring series! To learn more, or access recordings and resources from previous exchanges, visit the program webpage.

WE LOVED ENGAGING WITH YOU THIS FALL

We had a wonderful time connecting with community members at the Indian River Lagoon Science Festival, LagoonFest and School District of Palm Beach County's Sustainability Symposium!

We were excited to share our programs, while also educating and inspiring diverse audiences to engage in marine science. From experiencing our Generation Ocean: Coral Reefs 360 film and decorating Lagoon Drift cards to simulating a shark workup and interacting with our partner scientists, there was something for everyone, and we cannot wait for more great events next year!
