SOCIETY FOR SCIENCE SUPPORTS STEM EDUCATION

SfS STEM Action Grant 2024 Recipient_ANGARI Foundation

We are excited to share that we have been awarded a 2024 STEM Action Grant by the Society for Science! This grant program aims to develop an inclusive STEM talent pool by strengthening and improving outcomes for underrepresented groups in STEM education and careers.

This is the third year we have had the honor of receiving a grant under this program, and we are immensely appreciative of the Society's ongoing support. We look forward to welcoming a new school into our Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks program in the spring under this award! Learn more here.

WEST PALM 100 CHOOSES ANGARI FOR 2025 GRANT

We're thrilled to be one of West Palm 100's grant recipients for 2025!

Last Saturday, we attended the West Palm 100 Holiday Party and Toy Drive. During the evening, the WP100 Board of Directors announced their 2025 Charity of Choice, grant recipients (including ANGARI Foundation) and service and social beneficiaries.

We look forward to putting this funding towards a Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks student expedition in 2025.

OUR 12TH LAGOON DRIFT EXPERIMENT IS UNDERWAY

Lagoon Drift Experiment

In November we successfully kicked-off our 12th experiment in our Lagoon Drift study, and 280 eco-friendly orange drift cards were released into the Lake Worth Lagoon and Intracoastal Waterway (ICW). This experiment included an exciting addition of our new deployment site in the North Palm Beach ICW!

We have had over 40 cards recovered and reported so far! Thank you to all the citizen scientists, schools and partner organizations involved in helping us study marine debris and pollution movement in our waterways.

AN EXCITING SEMESTER OF SCIENCE-AT-SEA WRAPS

We rounded out our fall Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks programming with three R/V ANGARI student expeditions in October. During these, our crew and partner Florida International University scientists were joined by Independence Middle School's SciQuest Academy, The Conservatory School @ North Palm Beach's Sustainability Club and Royal Palm Beach Community High School.

We love being able to explore Palm Beach County waters and marine life firsthand with such inquisitive students and educators, and want to thank the Palm Beach International Boat Show Gives Back grant program for making the latter two expeditions possible!

ANGARI SPONSORS BECOME CITIZEN SCIENTISTS

ANGARI Sponsors Expedition 93 buoy toss

The ANGARI Foundation Board of Directors welcomed sponsors and supporters from Onshore Construction & Development and IJL Real Estate Group onboard R/V ANGARI for a fun, science filled Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks expedition.

Onshore Construction & Development was a Gold Sponsor at our 2024 Annual Celebration, and IJL Real Estate Group has been a longtime supporter of our science-at-sea education programs. Their generous support provides new opportunities for and positively impacts middle and high school students in Palm Beach County.

R/V ANGARI RECEIVES COMMUNICATION UPGRADE

R/V ANGARI is currently undergoing maintenance, including haul out and yard work, in order to be ready for a productive 2025!

We're pleased to announce that Starlink satellite communications have been added to the research vessel's repertoire. We can now offer researchers fast and reliable communications and internet access from anywhere in the world.

OCEAN CURRENTS & MARINE DEBRIS EDUCATION

Ocean Current Lessons

We had another busy and successful semester of visits to schools throughout the region. Our Community Outreach Programs and Education Manager Laura Jessop visited Independence Middle School's SciQuest Academy, Palm Beach Day Academy, Palm Beach Virtual School, The Benjamin School and Wellington Community High School.

During her lessons, Laura educated students on ocean currents, how and why we study them and marine debris, and then concluded with linking all of these topics back to our Lagoon Drift study.

ANGARI CREW & COE LEAD SCIENTIST VISIT SCHOOLS

Our Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks team, including lead scientist Will Sample of Florida International University, had a very productive semester in Palm Beach County Schools. Our visits to Palm Springs Community Middle School, The Conservatory School @ North Palm Beach and Royal Palm Beach Community High School included sharing insights into how and why scientists study sharks with nearly 600 students and teachers, and even featured a marine careers discussion with Will and our President and Captain Angela Rosenberg.

Thank you Palm Beach International Boat Show Gives Back grant program for supporting this educational programming!
