COASTAL OCEAN EXPLORERS: SHARKS PROGRAM OFFERS ONE-OF-A-KIND EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE
Our hands-on programming is back and better than ever! This year we launched Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks, an immersive, hands-on marine science experience for youth and educators. In partnership with Florida International University (FIU) scientists, we're offering participants the unique opportunity to join us for a daylong research expedition to learn scientific methods and assist with shark research firsthand.
We completed two student expeditions in the spring and are currently accepting applications for several student expeditions scheduled for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. We urge any interested educators to apply for fall and spring expeditions before they fill up!
It is our goal to be able to offer these educational opportunities at no cost to students. Thank you to our current program sponsors for their support, including IJL Real Estate, West Marine BlueFuture® Fund at Community Foundation Santa Cruz County, Women's Foundation of Florida and Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County. If you or your company are interested in supporting COE or becoming a COE founding member, please contact us.
UP CLOSE WITH A GIANT MANTA RAY
In April, our team released an exciting new 3D animated model - Meet Skye!
Digital Life and ANGARI Foundation teamed up with The Florida Manta Project of Marine Megafauna Foundation to help educate and bring awareness to Florida manta rays.
Earlier this month, we were thrilled to return to St. Pete, FL for our fifth year with Oceanography Camp for Girls!
We're honored to continue to support Oceanography Camp for Girl's mission and help girls gain real-world experience in oceanography and develop skills in communication and leadership.
We're pleased to introduce you to many of the scientists who join us at sea to study coral reefs, sharks, rays, sea turtles, ocean acidification, seafloor mapping, restoration, weather and more.
Visit our new Scientists webpage to meet these researchers dedicated to understanding and preserving our planet. We will be regularly updating the page and continuing to share scientists' stories.
BROWARD COUNTY LIBRARY LIVESTREAM EVENT
This summer, Broward County Libraries are hosting their "Oceans of Possibilities" themed Summer Learning Series, and we were pleased to help kick off their Florida Aquatic Summer Series.
On June 2nd our President and Captain Angela took to Facebook Live and welcomed viewers aboard R/V ANGARI. Those tuning in toured the vessel, met several crew and scientists who work onboard, learned more about our programs and were able to Q&A with everyone. We can't wait to see what the rest of the summer holds!
PALM BEACH COUNTY EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS
We enjoyed spending Earth Day at Palm Beach Atlantic University, exhibiting in their Earth Week Fair and sharing many of our programs, including our Lagoon Drift citizen science experiment.
We are also elated to have been featured in Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens' "Invest in Our Planet" Earth Day coloring book in partnership with Florida Crystals, Florida Power & Light and Lewis Longman & Walker PA once again. The 2022 edition is tri-lingual and includes captions in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole.
VIRTUAL VISIT TO HILTON HEAD HIGH
Earlier this spring, our President and Co-founder Angela Rosenberg participated in Hilton Head High School's career day.
Angela, an alum of the school, shared her career experiences in marine science and nonprofit business with fifty high school students. Discussions included college and graduate school, what it's like to be a scientist and advice for starting your own business or nonprofit organization.
NEW INTERN DEDICATED TO MARINE CONSERVATION
We're pleased to welcome ANGARI Summer Intern Rachel Pryke. Rachel has a BFA in Photojournalism and a minor in Journalism from RIT, and wants to be a marine life conservation photographer.
During her internship, Rachel is growing her skills to create video and photography content for the Foundation, its expeditions and scientists. Meet all of our interns on our website.
