ANGARI FOUNDATION ANNUAL CELEBRATION GOES VIRTUAL THIS YEAR
Join us on April 10th for this year's ANGARI Foundation Annual Celebration. Hosted by Angela and Kari Rosenberg, this will not be your usual virtual event. Prepare yourself for an hour of fun entertainment, R/V ANGARI, silent auction and, of course, lots of marine science! We cannot wait to bring together all of our partners, supporters, donors & like-minded individuals to celebrate ANGARI's successes and learn about our upcoming endeavors!
ANGARI EXPERTS AND RESEARCH PARTNERS FEATURED IN RECENT PALM BEACH POST ARTICLES
The blacktip sharks visited Florida in mass this winter!
Amidst the media frenzy, ANGARI partner scientists Stephen Kajiura and Marianne Porter from Florida Atlantic University and Yannis Papastamatiou from Florida International University, along with ANGARI VP of Production Kari Rosenberg were featured in the Palm Beach Post this past February and March for their work surrounding the annual blacktip shark migration.
We just completed our 36th research expedition. We've spent the last few days collecting surface water samples up and down the South Florida coastline with University of Central Florida Associate Professor John Fauth. Samples were strategically collected from outflow areas near shore and will be analyzed as part of ongoing environmental health assessments.
We're also preparing for upcoming expeditions in The Bahamas, Florida Keys, Dry Tortugas, Florida Bay and along the west coast of Florida.
R/V ANGARI MEETS NSF REQUIREMENTS
Earlier this year, the National Science Foundation (NSF) shared important guidelines for awardees using vessels outside the U.S. Academic Research Fleet (non-UNOLS vessels) for NSF-funded research.
We, and our University of Florida Thompson Earth Systems Institute partners, are back with another great series of live Ocean Expert Exchange webinars!
Two events remain for the spring. April 8th we're diving into marine archaeology, shipwreck science and maritime culture. May 6th we'll take a closer look at lionfish spines and how they've contributed to the (unfortunate) success of this invasive species in the Western Atlantic.
In February, we partnered with The Palm Beach Post to host a live panel discussion titled "Sharks Off Our Shores | An In-Depth Look at the Blacktip Shark Migration." The event featured shark researchers from Florida Atlantic and Florida International Universities and our own Vice President of Production. A great success, the event engaged an international audience of 160+ people!
ANGARI CO-FOUNDERS TALK CAREERS WITH SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS
Our co-founders and South Carolina high school graduates, Angela and Kari Rosenberg, participated in the John Paul II Catholic School's Virtual Career Fair. Joining other panelists from around the country, Angela spoke to students about higher education and what it's like to be a marine scientist. Kari shared her knowledge of the film industry and the importance of networking. It was a rewarding day working with young adults and educating the next generation.
