We and our partners at the University of Florida's Scientist in Every Florida School initiative are preparing for another exciting semester of live webinars with marine science experts!
We have three events in our fall series which gets underway on October 10th at 1:30 PM ET with Dr. Mike Heithaus of Florida International University. Dr. Heithaus will bring the world of sharks to life as he discusses decades of cutting-edge research to unravel how sharks influence ecosystems and why they are important parts of oceans. For more details about the fall webinars, registration info, resources and recordings from previous Ocean Expert Exchange events, visit our OEE webpage. We hope you will join our livestreams this fall, but have no fear if the timing does not work - the event recordings can be viewed at any time!
GEARING UP FOR OUR 12thLAGOON DRIFT EXPERIMENT
Planning is underway for our next Lagoon Drift citizen science experiment examining the flow of water and marine debris in our area. Eco-friendly orange wooden drift cards will be released into Palm Beach County waterways on November 14th so mark your calendars and get ready to be on the lookout!
We will be out and about at schools and outreach events in the coming months talking about marine debris, ocean currents and Lagoon Drift, so come say hi and learn how you can become a citizen scientist! To involve your students in the study, email lagoondrift@angari.org.
#SeaTheChange with Ocean Conservancy. Help remove debris from beaches and waterways and contribute to citizen science using Clean Swell or Marine Debris Tracker apps.
Mote Marine Laboratory hosts this annual event uniting young leaders and equipping them with the knowledge, tools and funding to launch conservation projects in their communities.
In collaboration with Art Life WPB, Keep West Palm Beach Beautiful is hosting a free community event to educate on the importance preventing litter from entering our waterways.

SPLASH BACK TO SUMMER 2024
June kicked off another rewarding summer of ocean education programming for us with the University of South Florida College of Marine Science's Oceanography Camp for Girls. In July, we hosted a four-day Educator Workshop focused on Palm Beach County area marine research and conservation with Manatee Lagoon and Palm Beach County Department of Environmental Resources Management. This exciting program gathered 31 Florida educators to learn about local marine environments and life. The workshop featured two days of science-at-sea onboard R/V ANGARI where the educators participated in shark research with Florida International University scientists as part of our Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks program. We want to thank the Palm Beach International Boat Show Gives Back grant program for supporting this workshop and their commitment to marine science education!
We rounded out our summer with onshore programming, including the School District of Palm Beach County's Math, Science & STEM Back to School Conference and a Lagoon Drift presentation at the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla Division Meeting.
WELCOMING FIU SCIENTIST WILL SAMPLE TO THE TEAM
We are excited to introduce Will Sample, lead scientist of our Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks education program in collaboration with Florida International University's College of Arts, Sciences & Education for the 2024-2025 school year!
Will is a marine ecologist who has been participating in shark research expeditions onboard R/V ANGARI with us since 2022. We are thrilled to have him take on this new role, leading both our Coastal Ocean Explorers onshore educational offerings and research expeditions for the year. Learn more about Will from his scientist webpage.
