There are three live events in our upcoming fall series. We get underway on Wednesday, October 7th at 1 PM ET, with Dr. Philip Gravinese of Eckerd College who will chat with us about stone crab larvae and how they may be impacted by changing ocean conditions. Then, on November 5th, we will be joined by Sarah Rider of Clemson University who will share her work under the Mission Iconic Reefs initiative in the Florida Keys. Finally, on December 9th, Emily Spurgeon of Florida International University will talk to us about her work on sharks and shipwrecks off of Palm Beach County. With a busy fall semester packed with Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks scientist visits to schools and youth expeditions getting underway, we are looking to fill a few remaining spots in our Spring 2027 student expeditions!

WE HAD A RECORD BREAKING LAGOON DRIFT...
Our May Lagoon Drift citizen science experiments have wrapped and the drift card data has been published to our Lagoon Drift Interactive Dashboard and Map. Check out the After-Action Report for these record breaking experiments and see how far our Lake Worth and Indian River Lagoon drift cards traveled!
This fall, we will be visiting schools and community events to share all things Lagoon Drift ahead of deploying drift cards for our 16th experiment on November 10th. Keep an eye out for us, and email lagoondrift@angari.org to engage your students in the study.

SPLASH BACK TO SUMMER 2026
In June we kicked off an exciting summer of ocean science educational programming with the University of South Florida College of Marine Science's Oceanography Camp Especially for Girls, before returning to Palm Beach County for programming in our own backyard!
During July, we hosted a four-day Educator Workshop highlighting local marine research and conservation efforts with our partners from Manatee Lagoon and Palm Beach County Environmental Resources Management. This year's program gathered an enthusiastic cohort of formal and informal educators to learn about local marine life and habitats. The workshop featured two days of science-at-sea onboard R/V ANGARI where the educators participated in shark research with FIU scientists. We want to thank the Palm Beach International Boat Show Gives Back grant program and Great Charity Challenge for supporting this workshop!
We rounded out our summer with onshore educational programming, including the School District of Palm Beach County's Secondary Math, Science & STEM Back-to-School Conference, Broward Shell Club's monthly meeting and the South Florida GIS Expo.
WELCOME OUR NEW COE: SHARKS LEAD SCIENTIST
Please allow us to introduce you to the newest member of the ANGARI team, Emily Spurgeon, the new Lead Scientist for our Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks program. Emily is a PhD candidate at Florida International University in the Predator Ecology and Conservation Lab and her research focuses on the behavior and ecology of sharks, including those off of Palm Beach County.
From the California coast to The Bahamas, Emily brings a wide breadth of experience working in shark research and community outreach. Visit her scientist webpage to learn more!

We are excited to share a new educator resource with you!
