We and our partners at University of Florida's Scientist in Every Florida School are excited to kick off another engaging semester of our live webinars with marine science experts!
We get underway Sept. 7th with the first of our three fall semester livestream events, covering topics from how scientists are studying the movement and behavior of sharks, to cool new tools being developed to study Florida's coral reefs. Details and educational resources for the fall events, along with recordings and resources from prior Ocean Expert Exchanges, can be found via our OEE program page.
COASTAL OCEAN EXPLORERS COMMUNITY GROWS
Our Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks education program in partnership with Florida International University had a busy summer. A highlight for all was our COE: SharksSummer Teacher Workshop where we welcomed 23 awesome Florida educators to our headquarters for a multi-day opportunity to learn from and engage with program leads and participate in local shark research. We're excited to continue to work with these teachers and their students throughout the year!
Applications are open for 2022-23 COE: Sharks youth expeditions - apply today!
LAKE WORTH LAGOON DRIFT CARD STUDY
That's a wrap on our 7th Lagoon Drift citizen science experiment looking at water and pollutant motion in our area! Planning is underway for our November experiment, and those interested in getting students involved are encouraged to email education@angari.org.
We will share findings from Lagoon Drift experiments to date at the Lake Worth Lagoon Science Symposium on Nov. 15th and hope to see some of you there!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR LAGOONFEST 2022
We are happy to announce that our team and Research Vessel ANGARI will once again be exhibiting at LagoonFest this year! This annual showcase of the Lake Worth Lagoon will be held on Nov. 5th along the waterfront in West Palm Beach.
The event is free and has great offerings for the entire family, including exhibit booths, live bird releases, a kid zone and kayak/boat tours. Mark your calendars and be sure to stop by and see us aboard R/V ANGARI on the southern public dock where we'll be sharing activities tied to our local marine science programming.
SPLASH BACK TO SUMMER 2022
While we hope all everyone enjoyed some well-earned rest and relaxation this summer, we at ANGARI were thrilled to have had an exciting summer full of ocean education programming both onshore and at-sea... This included reaching our milestone 50th expedition during a Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks program with students and teachers from Roosevelt Community Middle School. We want to thank the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County for providing the funding that made this expedition and the supporting school visit possible!
GET TO KNOW A MARINE SCIENTIST ON OUR WEBSITE
From using drones to map coral reefs, to investigating pollutants in sharks, the scientists we work with are always up to exciting things. Now you and your students have an opportunity to learn about them via our scientists webpage.
On these pages you'll find Q&A, photos and more that can be used to explore different careers in marine science, and the interests and background of those who pursue them. Be sure to keep a lookout as we add more scientists!
