This spring we engaged with 1,400+ students, educators and community members as part of our Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks program with Florida International University.
This unique program gives students and educators the opportunity to connect with STEM like never before while working alongside scientists to understand and contribute to marine research initiatives. Participants not only gain authentic science-at-sea experience but also develop an appreciation for the role sharks play in ecosystems and the importance of their conservation. Want your students to have a hands-on opportunity like this? Visit the Coastal Ocean Explorers webpage to learn more. We're already booking for 2026, so apply today!
A SUCCESSFUL LAGOON DRIFT-FILLED SPRING
We've been all hands on deck this semester preparing for and executing the 13th experiment in our Lagoon Drift citizen science study of marine debris motion around the Lake Worth and Indian River Lagoons. As always, we've loved engaging our partners and community members in the decoration, deployment and recovery of our eco-friendly wooden drift cards for this experiment!
Keep an eye out for cards and the after-action report that will be published this summer. Email lagoondrift@angari.org to get your students involved in a future Lagoon Drift experiment.

SPLASH BACK TO SPRING 2025
We had another fin-omenal spring of Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks programming both onshore and at sea! We visited schools and headed out on the water for R/V ANGARIexpeditions with six groups of Palm Beach County students and educators. A huge thank you to the Palm Beach International Boat Show Gives Back grant program and Society for Science's STEM Action grant program for supporting these educational opportunities!
We rounded out the semester with a variety of Lagoon Drift education programming like school visits and invited talks. Thank you to all our partners who contributed to this experiment's success! Out and about in the community, we shared our marine science programming at numerous education and outreach events this semester. From ManateeFest and Nature Fest to The Conservatory School @ NPB’s Environmental Literacy Event, Ann Norton Sculpture Garden’s Earth Day Event, the Kiwanis Club of Delray Beach and the Florida Marine Science Educators Association's Annual Conference, we thoroughly enjoyed engaging community members of all ages in what we do.
CHECK OUT THE 2025 EARTH DAY COLORING BOOK
We are excited to be featured in another Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens' Earth Day Coloring Book created in partnership with Lewis Longman & Walker PA.
Following the Earth Day 2025 theme of 'Our Power, Our Planet,' the coloring book shines a spotlight on the education and conservation efforts of several environmentally minded organizations in our area. In addition to inspiring graphic imagery, the book also includes captions in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole. Copies were distributed to thousands of Palm Beach County students, and you can download a PDF to print here!
