This spring, we engaged more than 2,700 students, educators and community members through our Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks education program!
We and our partners at Florida International University love giving students and educators the opportunity to work alongside scientists to gain hands-on STEM experience while contributing to shark research and conservation efforts in Palm Beach County. Our program participants not only build practical science-at-sea skills but also develop a deeper understanding of the critical role sharks play in healthy ocean ecosystems.

A SUCCESSFUL SEMESTER FOR LAGOON DRIFT
On May 1stwe initiated our 15thLagoon Driftexperiment, which included a brand new deployment site in Boca Raton, with the help of 100 citizen scientists! In conjunction with this, we engaged over 700 individuals of all ages educating them on the effects of marine debris and our Lagoon Drift study. Thank you to the Great Charity Challenge for supporting this programming, and to our partners who make these experiments possible!
Keep an eye out for cards, and our after-action report to be shared this summer. Email lagoondrift@angari.org to get your students involved in future experiments.

SPLASH BACK TO SPRING 2026
What a rewarding semester of educational programming we had both at-sea and onshore!
This spring, our Coastal Ocean Explorers: Sharks program engaged over 500 students and teachers across four school visits and seven R/V ANGARI expeditions! Participating schools included Eagles Landing Middle, Oxbridge Academy (Expeditions 116 & 117), Palm Beach Day Academy, Palm Beach Gardens High, Palm Beach Lakes High and The Benjamin School. We want to thank the Palm Beach International Boat Show Gives Back grant program for supporting this marine science educational programming for Palm Beach Gardens Community High School, and the Great Charity Challenge and Rota Foundation for making this programming possible for Palm Beach Lakes Community High School!
A highlight of the spring was educational programming in conjunction with our15thLagoon Drift citizen science experiment. We had the pleasure of engaging Belvedere Elementary, Independence Middle, Palm Beach Day Academy, Palm Springs Community Middle, Somerset Academy Boca and The Benjamin School in the program. We also shared this long-term study with groups at the City of West Palm Beach, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, Lake Worth Lagoon Initiative, Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce and River Center.
Our team was out and about sharing our programs with thousands of community members this spring. We engaged aspiring young minds through Junior Achievement Career Exploration Fairs at Dr. Joaquín García, Jupiter Community and Suncoast Community High Schools, and the Florence De George Boys & Girls Club Career Fair. We also presented a variety of our programs to educators at the Florida Marine Science Educators Association Annual Conference, and had a blast exhibiting at ManateeFest, TurtleFest, Palm Beach International Boat Show Gives Back Zone and Earth Day at Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens.
CHECK OUT THE 2026 EARTH DAY COLORING BOOK
To celebrate Earth Day each year, Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens creates an awesome Earth Day Coloring Book in partnership with Lewis, Longman & Walker P.A., and we love being part of it!
This year's theme is 'Our Power, Our Planet' and the coloring book shares the inspiring programs and efforts of several environment-aligned organizations in our area. Download a PDF copy to print or share and challenge your students to color in their favorite page. With captions in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole, this resource is accessible and a great STEAM activity for all!
